Miguel Angel Jiménez claimed the first hole in one of the BMW PGA Championship with a superb four iron on the fifth hole to turn up the heat at the top of the leaderboard on the final day.
Jiménez’s sensational ace on the 206 yard par three, his second hole in one of the year after the Dubai Desert Classic, followed back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes to claw back overnight leader Robert Karlsson’s four stroke advantage after the giant Swede dropped two shots in his opening three holes.
The Spaniard’s tee shot bounced twice before dropping into the hole amid rapturous cheers at Wentworth Club. It was his sixth hole in one on The European Tour but could prove the most vital of them all if he can go on to win the flagship event.
England’s Oliver Wilson also started brightly as he aims for his maiden European Tour win, picking up three shots in his first six holes on the West Course which had taken an overnight soaking.
England’s Luke Donald had a fine end to his week, carding a final round 65 to move to nine under par for the Championship.
South African Retief Goosen had earlier surged up the leaderboard after carding a six under par round of 66 to finish the Championship on seven under par.
