Horschel proves you can't keep a good man down

Sitting at the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex with a first World Golf Championships title recently wrapped up, life must be pretty good for Billy Horschel.

Unfortunately, as we all know, golf can bring you down to earth with a bump and it certainly did for Horschel on day three of the 2021 Masters Tournament - literally.

After putting his tee shot on the par five 13th into the pine straw, the American found the water with his second but had a shot and took a shoe off before stepping into the tributary of Rae's Creek.

Realising he had to take off his other shoe off, he got out of the water and walked up the bank to look at the green but the combination of wet feet and grass saw him take a tumble on the way back down.

Horschel is well known for his laid back attitude and his first thought when he got up was to ask playing partner Phil Mickelson about the state of his white trousers.

"I said, 'how bad is that grass stain going to be?', and he said, 'there may not be one there', and he looked and said, 'yeah, there's one there, sorry, buddy'.

"Obviously that's going to be a highlight that's played on social media."

Undeterred, Horschel stepped back into the water and found the green to save his par in a round of 73.

"It was completely submerged," he said. "And when I say completely submerged, I'd say it was probably a couple of inches under the water.

"Fortunately enough, I've hit a few shots from the water just for fun in my lifetime. I knew there was a whole bunch of green behind me, so as long as I hit it hard enough, it would come out."

Not all pars are equal.
