David Horsey took the early lead on day one of the KLM Open but fellow Englishman Ben Evans made a blistering start to sit just a shot behind at The Dutch.
It was a glorious day at the European Tour Destination in Spijk and the morning starters were making the most of it, with 37 players under par in the early stages.
The best of those was Horsey, who picked up birdies on the first, second, fourth and sixth to turn in 31 and then added further gains at the tenth and 11th to get to six under.
The 31 year old is looking for a good week after missing the cut in the defence of his Made in Denmark title, and he is in the hunt for a fifth European Tour win.
Evans began his round on the back nine and after picking up a birdie on the tenth added four in a row from the 12th to sit just a shot back.
There were then eight players at three under, including French duo Raphaël Jacquelin and Thomas Linard, Italian pair Matteo Manassero and Nino Bertasio, Australian Brett Rumford, Scot Scott Jamieson, American Daniel Im and Swede Joakim Lagergren.
Defending champion Thomas Pieters was dealt a blow as he was forced to withdraw following a major allergic reaction after being stung by a bee on Monday.
The in-form 24 year old was stung during a challenge match against Dutch number one Joost Luiten and went on to develop flu-like symptoms.
