Inside the ropes in 360-degrees

Many golf fans watch tournaments dreaming of what it would be like to walk inside the ropes with their favourite players. This week, at the KLM Open, fans are getting the chance to see what that experience is like thanks to some live 360-degree filming.

Tournament sponsor ING Private Banking have provided the the technology that allows fans at The Dutch to walk inside the ropes with Joost Luiten using VR headsets in the spectator village.

“I’m proud to be the first player to take part in this world-first on the European Tour,” said Luiten. “A 360-degree camera will follow me during the tournament rounds and will show what I see: from fellow golfers to the spectators, from the first swing to the last putt. As a spectator, you can’t get any closer to the game than this!”

VR 360 live is an ING Private Bank initiative and is possible thanks to the close partnership with TIG Sports and the European Tour.

“Live virtual reality fits in perfectly with the our ambition to contribute to innovation in golf in a relevant way” said Steven Sedee, ING’s Sports Sponsoring Manager. “It’s fantastic how this technology is advancing and we’re pleased that fans at the KLM Open are getting the chance to get very close to the players.”
