Live with PDA!

At this year's BMW International Open, spectators can not only look forward to experiencing first class golf, but they can also make use of a technical innovation being made available at the Munich North-Eichenried golf club. The tournament will be offering a PDA special.

600 handheld PDAs will be available to spectators for the duration of the event. By using these devices, golf fans will be able to retrieve all important information on the tournament. Among the information made available on PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) will be live TV pictures as well as live scoring. Further, the system will offer interesting facts on the golf course and the top players competing in the tournament. There will also be valuable information on the new BMW 5 series available via handheld.

The data is being transferred via a wireless network system, WLAN, with a range extending over the entire public area at the golf club.

The entire tournament on PDA – thanks to the efforts of BMW and HP. The PDA special is a special service being offered to spectators, making the BMW International Open even more interesting for the golf fans.

In 2002, a PDA special service was offered in the VIP area of the BMW International Open. The idea was not only very much welcomed by the spectators, but also awarded with a coveted MultiMedia Award. Now the service is going to be offered on a larger scale.

Golf fans are no longer bound to fixed devices at events such as video screens or manual scoreboards, visitors to the BMW International Open 2003 can constantly retrieve up to date information on the spot by using the PDA. This service also represents one aspect of the high standards to be fulfilled when a sport like golf combines with the image of an innovative brand like BMW.
