France's Mike Lorenzo-Vera made the most of his late move inside the cut line on Friday by storming into contention at the Italian Open.
The 33 year old, a runner-up on his last visit to Italy at the Rocco Forte Sicilian Open, was in danger of missing the weekend when he found himself outside the projected cut on three under with only two holes of his second round remaining.
However, birdies on the 17th and 18th extended his run of made cuts to seven.
Birdies at the first, eighth and tenth saw him move up the leaderboard before an eagle at the long 13th took him to ten under – just a shot behind halfway leader Martin Kaymer.
The German had been caught before he teed off as Belgian Thomas Pieters and home favourite Francesco Molinari birdied the opening hole.
That left the leading trio on 13 under, with Lorenzo-Vera, South African Thomas Aiken, Australian Danny Willett, Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello and Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell a shot further back.
