Noren coasting to victory

Alex Noren had his first bogey for 53 holes at Bro Hof Slott, but the Swede still looked to be in full control of the Nordea Masters.

Starting the final round 11 shots clear of the rest of the field, the 29 year old added another birdie at the first before dropping shots at the third and fourth.

However, with American Bubba Watson two over through his first four holes Noren was still 11 shots clear – from England’s Richard Finch, who birdied three of his first eight.

Noren’s 11 shot margin after 54 holes was the joint second largest in European Tour history and there was a real chance for him to try and break Tiger Woods’ record 15 shot victory at The 2000 US Open Championship at Pebble Beach.

Finch birdied the 12th to move to nine under, remarkably he was the only one of the 65 players who made the cut under par for the final round.

Noren, looking to become the fifth different home winner in the events history, further shots at the sixth and ninth, but by turning in a three over 39 he was still eight clear.

The Saab Wales Open champion had not dropped a shot on the inward half all week, and was a cumulative 11 under par for the back nine.

Any hopes Noren had of recording The European Tour’s largest victory margin evapourated when Finch birdied the par three 16th – the former Irish Open winner going to five under for the day.
