Australia’s Rod Pampling led compatriot Marcus Fraser by one shot midway through the final round at the Sportsbet Australian Masters after both made flying starts to their final rounds at Huntingdale Golf Club.
Pampling played the first ten holes of his final round in five under par to move to 12 under overall, with Fraser six under through 13.
Joint overnight leader Robert Allenby reached the turn in level par to remain in contention at ten under.
Pampling picked up two shots over his opening four holes and despite handing a shot back with a bogey at the fifth, reached the turn four under courtesy of an eagle three at the 536 yard seventh - a hole which Allenby carded a rare albatross during his third round.
Fraser reeled off three straight birdies to start his round before adding three more birdies over his next five holes before the turn.
He knocked approaches into one, two, six and eight inside about five feet, while his best effort of the round came as he holed a 20 foot left to right putt at the third.
He handed a shot back at the 11th but quickly made amends two holes later.
Allenby, a two time Australian Masters champion, dropped one shot over his first six holes to slip back to nine under but returned to his overnight total with a birdie at the seventh.
South Africa’s Tim Clark, the second round leader, carded a fourth round five under 67 to sit in the clubhouse on eight under.
Co-overnight leader Michael Sim dropped to six under after shipping four strokes in nine holes.
Sim twice landed the ball in the gallery en route to a bogey at the par four second before dropping another shot at his next hole.
He steadied himself midway through his round, but reached the the turn bogey-bogey to slip six shots off the lead.
