Past and present Ryder Cup Captains welcome £5 Friday

As the venue for the Johnnie Walker Championship and the Host Venue for The 2014 Ryder Cup, The Gleneagles Hotel is one of the strongest supporters of golf in Scotland.  That support is being increased again this year with the continuation of ‘£5 Friday’ during the week of the Johnnie Walker Championship with all the revenue from on-the-day ticket sales donated to clubgolf – Scotland’s junior golf development programme.

Colin Montgomerie said: “It’s great to see that for the second year in a row, the Johnnie Walker Championship is giving fans the chance to watch a full day of golf here at Gleneagles for just five pounds. It’s not only a fantastic opportunity for Scottish golf spectators but it also aids the growth of the junior game in this country, the ‘Home of Golf’. I would encourage all golf fans to come down and watch the action for unfold.”

Patrick Elsmie, Managing Director of The Gleneagles Hotel, said: ‘We regularly welcome golfers of all levels to Gleneagles, including aspiring junior players.  It is important to us that, as a high profile golfing venue in the home of golf and the Host Venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup, we help to create opportunities for the next generation of players and this support for clubgolf allows us to do that.

‘The Johnnie Walker Championship is a tremendous tournament and enjoys great support from players and spectators alike.  By offering fans £5 Friday for the second successive year we hope that more and more spectators will come to the event, enjoy a great golfing spectacle and the magnificent setting here in Perthshire while supporting the development of the game in Scotland.’

European Ryder Cup Captain, José María Olazábal, who will announce his two wildcard picks in Gleneagles Hotel on Monday (August 27th) following the Championship, said, “For just five pounds golf fans can come down and enjoy watching a full days play here at the Johnnie Walker Championship. With the added drama of this being a Ryder Cup year I’m sure there will be plenty twists and turns throughout the day. I think it’s a great initiative.”

Tickets are available on the gate on arrival at the course.  Parking is free.  For full details on the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles visitwww.johnniewalkerchampionship.com; for further details on The Gleneagles Hotel, visitwww.gleneagles.com.
