Graeme McDowell was among those making an early move amid the leaders teeing off in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.
With poor weather forecast in Ohio, all of the players began earlier in a two tee start with some groups three strong.
Early morning dew made for softer conditions and McDowell took full advantage, birdying the tenth, his first hole, 16th and 17th to reach two under par overall.
He was, though, still ten shots adrift of overnight leader Sergio Garcia, who - clearly brimming with confidence following yesterday's 61 - launched his opening shot on to the first fairway.
Garcia was alongside England's Justin Rose and Australia's Marc Leishman, with Open Championship winner Rory McIlroy in the group behind alongside Charl Schwartzel and Rickie Fowler.
