Costantino Rocca and Mark McNulty shared the 54-hole lead on 11 under par. Both turned in 34, but Nick Faldo, starting three behind, was out in 33 then birdied the 11th and 12th to tie the lead at 12 under. Paul Lawrie was one behind after an 11th hole birdie. Rocca and McNulty both birdied the long 12th; Faldo three putted the 13th. McNulty made three successive bogeys from the 13th. Faldo holed a 25 footer for birdie at the 15th and tied the lead again when Rocca bogeyed the 15th. Lawrie birdied the 18th to tie Faldo at 12 under, but Rocca hit an 85 yards wedge to three feet for birdie at the 17th and made another from ten feet at the last.
