Jesper Parnevik clinched a five shot victory to become the first Swedish player to win a top title in Sweden and left runner-up Colin Montgomerie gasping with admiration. Three shots behind Parnevik after 54 holes and tied second with New Zealander Michael Campbell, Montgomerie made a move when he birdied the second. But the Swede countered with five birdies to race clear. Campbell faded to an outward 40 as Vijay Singh challenged boldly with a course record-equalling 65 to claim third place.
