Stephen Ames shared third place with Derrick Cooper, Wayne Riley and Jon Robson starting the final round at five under - four behind Colin Montgomerie and one adrift of Ian Woosnam. Montgomerie, out in 39, dropped more shots at the tenth and 11th and Ames with successive birdies at the 11th and 12th moved ahead. Ames hit a five iron to eight feet for a 14th hole birdie to go seven under, but hit his second into water to take seven at the 17th. Robson, now sharing the lead, bogeyed the 18th whereas Ames holed a ten foot par saving putt to win.
