Round 4 Summary

Vijay Singh ended the three year reign of Ernie Els at Wentworth Club when he won the title at the 36th hole.  Els, however, had staged a brave recovery in the final Four down after 14 holes, he counter-attacked and twice fought back to all square in the afternoon, winning the tenth with a birdie two and the 12th with a birdie four.  Then Singh moved ahead again at the 15th from where he stayed infront to win the title from Els to whom he had lost the final in 1996.  "This rates as one of the top victories in my career," Singh said.  "Beating Ernie Els is a big achievement, especially as he hadn't lost to anyone in the championship before.  I played all four rounds, which is difficult, and the final against Ernie was a tough match.  I live in America, but I still like playing on the European Tour."  Els said: "My congratulations to Vijay.  He played solid golf."
