Colin Montgomerie completed his first successful defence of a Volvo Tour Title over the Nippenburg European Tour Course. Two shots of the pace after 54 holes, the Scot had five birdies and one bogey in a closing 67 to take the title by one shot from Sam Torrance. Final day challengers Torrance, Paul Moloney, Stuart Cage and Niclas Fasth all held the lead, or share of it, during the round, with Fasth scoring an equal best of the day 66. But Montgomerie got up and down for a birdie at the last to set the target at 16 under which proved sufficient.
