Freddy Schott birdied four of his last six holes to climb to the top of the Euram Bank Open leaderboard and open up a three-shot lead ahead of the final day.
The German entered the third round four shots off the pace but posted a brilliant six under par round of 64 to reach ten under par and lead by three at Golf Club Adamstal Franz Wittmann.
New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier carded the low round of the day, a seven under par 63, to move into a share of second place alongside countryman Josh Geary, Austrian Martin Wiegele and Spanish duo Javier Sainz and Emilio Cuartero Blanco on seven under par.
Schott has been working hard on the psychological side of his game and believes it has enabled him to keep concentration levels high throughout his round, as he finished with a flourish of birdies in Austria.
“It was a good test today,” he said. “The wind was strong and you had to guess which direction it was coming from.
“I have been working hard with my mental coach recently. He tries to keep my mind free of everything and we speak every evening.
“I had to stick in there during the middle part of my round and all of a sudden I started to hit some great approach shots and roll in some putts. It was great to get three consecutive birdies towards the end of my round.”
The 21-year-old has recorded three top-five finishes in his last four starts on the Road to Mallorca and is now looking to secure a maiden European Challenge Tour title in Ramsau.
“If there is a problem with my game then I will take ten balls to the range and focus on each ball properly,” he said. “I used to take 60 balls to the range and it was doing more harm than good.
“I’m going to take it easy this evening and focus on my recovery. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully I can get that first win.”
Ireland’s Robin Dawson, German Marc Hammer and Frenchman Pierre Pineau share seventh place on six under par, while Austrian’s Christoph Bleier and Timon Baltl, Spaniard Borja Virto and France’s Sébastien Gros are a shot further back on five under.
The final round of the Euram Bank Open will begin at 7:00am local time on Sunday July 17, with Schott teeing it up in the final group alongside Hillier and Wiegele at 11:11am.
