Scottish sporting stars confirmed for Nexo Championship Celebrity Pro-Am

A host of Scottish sporting stars will take to the fairways later this summer, with football internationals Gordon Strachan, Scott Brown, Charlie Mulgrew, Allan McGregor, James McArthur, Steven Fletcher and John Hewitt confirmed for the inaugural Nexo Championship Celebrity Pro-Am.

The star-studded group will be joined by tennis royalty in renowned coach Judy Murray and seven-time major doubles champion Jamie Murray at Trump International Golf Links on Wednesday 19 August, for what promises to be a day of unmissable action in Aberdeen.

Strachan is one of Scottish football’s most iconic figures, having made 801 club appearances and capped 50 times for his country, in a career that spanned more than 25 years. The Hall of Famer transitioned into managerial roles after his playing days, including a five-year stint with Scotland from 2013-2017, further deepening his stature and service to football.

Brown joins his former boss Strachan – the pair enjoyed three campaigns at Celtic together before reuniting at the international level – in switching the pitch for the links.

The 41-year-old tallied 620 appearances for Celtic, the seventh most in the club’s history, across a 14-year journey that saw him win ten Premiership titles, six Scottish Cups and six League Cups. He made his international debut in 2005, before going on to cap 55 times.

Brown will also reunite with former teammate Mulgrew in Aberdeen, the duo having represented Scotland together and shared in eight Major triumphs across seven seasons at Celtic.

Mulgrew, who tallied 203 appearances in green and white, earned international selection in 2012, in what would be his first of 44 caps. The defender further etched his name into the Scottish history books when he was appointed skipper following Brown’s retirement in 2018.

McGregor will be flying the Rangers flag in Aberdeen. The Hall of Fame inductee made over 500 appearances for the Light Blues, winning 15 Major trophies and establishing himself as a club great. The renowned keeper pulled on the Scotland shirt for the first time in 2007 and went on to tally 42 caps, before announcing his retirement from international football in 2019.

Midfielder McArthur and striker Fletcher, who represented Scotland on 32 and 33 occasions respectively, alongside Hewitt, who played six matches for Scotland’s Under 21s side, round out the footballers teeing it up in Aberdeen.

Joining them is former GB Federation Cup captain Judy Murray, having recently found her passion in golf.

The hugely influential figure in British sport, who was appointed an OBE in 2017 for services to tennis, women, sport and charity, has coached players at all levels, including her sons Jamie and former World Number One Andy in the early stages of their professional careers.

Keen golfer Jamie will also be looking to do the Murray name proud. The double specialist, who won the 2015 Davis Cup and ranked as high as World Number One the following year, enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades, only retiring earlier in April.

The newly introduced Celebrity Pro-Am is set to add to the atmosphere in Aberdeen, with more exciting names to be announced shortly.

Tickets are now on sale, with fans encouraged to lock in their spot early.
