Defending Champion Henrik Stenson ensured the 2008 edition of the Dubai Desert Classic got off to a perfect start by winning the charity Challenge Match, sponsored by Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Teaming up with Colin Montgomerie on the nine hole, par three Wadi Course at the Emirates Golf Club, Stenson aced the 130 yard ninth to ensure himself and Montgomerie won the Match with a seven under par total, one better than Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood, while Darren Clarke and Tiger Woods took third place on five under.
The charity Challenge Match drew an enthusiastic crowd, who revelled in the opportunity to see many of the game’s biggest names up close and personal, while raising money for several UAE charities.
