Warren thrills the home fans at Gleneagles

Scotland’s Marc Warren thrilled the home spectators when he moved into the early lead in the first round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

The 26 year old was flawless around the PGA Centenary Course – the venue for The 2014 Ryder Cup and posted eight birdies in total to grab a one shot lead over Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

“It is obviously a very solid start and I’m pleased to have no bogeys on my card and eight birdies,” he said. “It was a very solid round from tee to green and on the greens as well. The only time I had a bit of trouble was on the eighth hole, my 17th, where I hit a good enough tee shot but it just went through the fairway.

“I probably had too much club off the tee and probably should have hit three wood because the wind was helping a bit more than we thought off the tee. But I managed to scramble a four there and made birdie at the last which was good.”
