What's in the Bag - Danny Willett

Danny Willett survived a marathon four hole play-off to claim his maiden European Tour title at the BMW International Open and we take a look inside his bag to find out how he did it.

The young Englishman was in the mix at the top of the board ever since a fine 65 on Thursday saw him lie one off the pace set by Fabrizio Zanotti and Marcus Fraser, the latter being the man Willett would beat at the fourth extra hole. However the key to his success boiled down, in the end, to two great shots on Sunday.

The first, in regulation, saw the man from Sheffield show extreme fortitude under pressure in finding the green from behind a tree in the right rough, drawing a mid-iron into the heart of the green and securing the par he needed to take the tournament to extra holes.

The second, after three holes that drew a stalemate, came after he flew the green with his second to the 18thleaving him a  tricky chip out of the long rough and back down the hill to the flag. He judged it to perfection though, almost holing it, and piling the pressure on Fraser who failed from five feet to continue the play-off after Willett’s brilliance from long of the hole.

These were the key moments, and are proof that great play is not always enough on The European Tour, and that it often boils down to one or two key moments that define victory.

Willett came out on Tour a promising youngster, and having cashed in on that ability after almost five years on the circuit, he will be looking for more success as the 2012 golfing summer continues to gather pace.

Here is what he had in his bag:
