(Reuters) - World Number One Tiger Woods ended an eventful Open third round with a two-under 69 on Saturday.
Woods, whose ball struck a female spectator on the head at the sixth hole, was one under for the tournament, a position he believes he can still build on to capture his third successive claret jug.
"It was a little bit better today but not that much better," said the 12 times Major winner after mixing four birdies with two bogeys.
"I'm still not quite sharp enough but I hung in. My only two bogeys were three-putts.
"At least I've given myself a chance for tomorrow."
With the already drenched course playing long through frequent drizzle, Woods recognised the pitfalls of Carnoustie.
"The conditions make it a bit frustrating. And if you're off at all, you're going to be penalised."
The spectator who was struck was named as Jennifer Wilson of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. She needed two stitches in her head wound.
