Former champion amongst star trio confirmed for Genesis Scottish Open

Two-time Major champion Schauffele also completes a line up of the last three winners of the Genesis Scottish Open, joining defending champion Robert MacIntyre, and 2023 winner and Masters Tournament champion Rory McIlroy as they all bid to win the Rolex Series event for a second time.

Reigning Genesis Invitational champion Åberg and Straka – a four-time PGA TOUR winner, who has claimed two of those titles this season – made their Ryder Cup debuts in Europe’s victory over the United States in Rome in 2023 and will both vie for a maiden win in Scotland’s national open.

The trio will join a stellar field in the home of golf, including Major winners Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas, six-time PGA TOUR winner Max Homa and 2024 Genesis Championship winner Byeong Hun An, with more global stars to be announced.

Schauffele claimed two Major victories in 2024 at the US PGA Championship and The Open, lifting the Claret Jug the week after teeing it up at the Genesis Scottish Open.

The 2020 Olympic Gold Medal winner said: “It was awesome to win the Genesis Scottish Open in 2022, and I always look forward to playing in front of the Scottish fans. It’s become an important stop on my schedule, especially last year, teeing it up at the Renaissance Club before going on to win my second Major the next week.”

Åberg claimed maiden wins on the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR either side of his Ryder Cup debut in Italy in 2023, and this season added his first Signature Event win at The Genesis Invitational in February.

The Swede, who finished tied fourth at the Genesis Scottish Open last season, said: “I had a good run at the title at Renaissance Club last season and it will be cool to come back this summer as The Genesis Invitational winner.”

Austrian Straka is enjoying an impressive season on the PGA TOUR, winning The American Express in January and also securing his first victory in a Signature Event at the Truist Championship two weeks ago. He returns for a third appearance in North Berwick this season.

Straka said: “It’s always fun to play in the home of golf, and my game is in a great place this season so I would love to bring that momentum over to Scotland in July.”

The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, counting on both the Race to Dubai Rankings and the FedExCup, and boasts Genesis, the luxury automotive brand from South Korea, as title sponsor. Genesis title-sponsor two tournaments on the PGA TOUR’s 2025 schedule, with the Genesis Scottish Open following The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in February, won by European Ryder Cup star Åberg.

The event benefits from the continued commitment of the Scottish Government and VisitScotland, and retains its place in golf’s global calendar the week ahead of The Open as part of these agreements through to 2025.

The fan experience at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open includes the Fringe by the Tee pop-up stage, in conjunction with the Fringe by the Sea festival, featuring a Saturday headline slot from KT Tunstall, the Grammy-nominated, Brit Award-winning artist.
