Race to Number One

Hamish Brown is the man to catch in Mallorca having amassed 1,262 points so far this term to sit top of the current Rankings after his win at the Hangzhou Open last time out. The Dane has an 85-point lead heading into the final event after registering one victory and four other top tens this term. Brown’s closest challenger is Swede Christofer Blomstrand who has won twice this year already and will look to better Brown’s result in a bid to overtake him and claim top spot.

If Blomstrand or Dutchman Lars Van der Vight win the Grand Final, they will move to the top of the Rankings. They are the only two players guaranteed the Rankings crown regardless of where Brown finishes, whilst players down to Dane Kristian Hjort Bressum in 17th have a chance to overtake Brown at the top, depending on results in the rest of the field.

Every single person in the 45-man field can earn promotion. American Alex Goff is the last man in the field, and Englishman Matthew Southgate, who currently occupies 15th in the Rankings and the final promotion place, are separated by 243 points. Southgate has 690 points, while Goff has has 447.

Englishman John Gough is the highest-ranked player in the field who is yet to secure promotion. If he finishes ninth or better in Mallorca, he will earn promotion no matter the outcome of other players come the end of the week, whilst Dane Sebastian Friedrichsen needs a seventh or better to earn promotion.

South African Louis Albertse is 16th in the rankings and needs a third or better to guarantee promotion to Golf’s Global Tour but will need to finish 25th or better to stand a chance of promotion.
