Spaniard Pablo Larrazábal is hoping to continue his recent fine form in this week’s Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity and end a two-year wait for his third European Tour title.
The 30 year old has finished in the top 20 in seven of his last eight appearances, racking up four top tens in the Maybank Malaysian Open, Trophée Hassan II, Ballantine’s Championship and Volvo China Open having been in contention on the final day.
Larrazábal, who is currently 28th in The Race to Dubai, also has previous at Diamond Country Club in Austria, having opened with a 64 last year before taking a share of tenth place – one of six top ten finishes in 2012.
“This week is another chance to do well and get another good result,” said the Barcelona man, whose last victory came in the 2011 BMW International Open.
“I’ve been playing very well and hitting the ball very nicely, so I’m looking forward to keeping that going here in Austria.
“There have been lots of good results already this season and it’s very encouraging. It’s not frustrating. I try to play my best every week, and whether that means I’m fourth or 30th, I’m happy if I’ve played the best I can.
“I played well here last year and in the third round I had seven birdies in eight holes, so there are plenty of good memories. The course suits my game and I know I can play well on it.”
Home favourite Bernd Wiesberger returns to Atzenburgg to defend his title in the €1,000,000 event, and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiménez, who recently made his 600th European Tour appearance is also in the field.
The home challenge is also bolstered by two-time European Tour winner Markus Brier, plus Martin Wiegele and young amateur Matthias Schwab.
