It doesn’t take much to convince us to roll out these brilliant pictures of Jonas Blixt’s caddie again, but as it’s National Sunscreen Day today, it would be rude not to.
He had been asked by Blixt to bunk off work in order to caddie for him at the Nedbank Golf Championship at the end of 2014. A week of sun, fun and golf in the resort of Sun City? A no-brainer.
However, if you live in Sweden there’s zero chance of getting a suntan in December – particularly if you’ve supposedly spent the week in bed ill – so he had to resort to extreme measures to make sure he wasn’t rumbled by his employers on his return.
His ensemble at the Gary Player Country Club had spectators and commentators scratching their heads. Perhaps he had a skin condition, or was just being extra cautious in the blazing South African sun, they wondered.
All became clear when Blixt explained the real reason after his round, swearing the European Tour press officer and local media to secrecy so as not to blow his mate’s story.
Whether the man in question still has his job is unknown, but that tale and the pictures of a ghost-like caddie were one of the highlights of the tournament.
It’s not quite South Africa, but Wentworth is warm and sunny today, so don’t forget the sunscreen, folks.
