Colsaerts and Fernandez-Castaño continue to shine

Nicolas Colsaerts and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño recorded the biggest victory margin in Seve Trophy by Golf+ history to keep Continental Europe ahead after the second day fourballs.

The pair had won 5 and 3 on the opening day against Scottish pair Marc Warren and Scott Jamieson, and it was again Scots on the receiving end today as Colsaerts and Fernandez-Castaño ran out 6 and 5 victors against Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher.

However, Great Britain & Ireland won the session 3-2 to reduce Continental Europe’s lead to 5 ½ - 4 ½.

“We played well today,” said Fernandez-Castaño, who shared seven birdies with his playing partner.

“It was very breezy at times and I think we managed to make a lot of birdies, which is of course the key in fourballs.”

Asked about the pair’s success, the Spaniard said: “I would love to play with Nicolas again. I think we have good fun at the course, and that is what team golf is about.

“You need to enjoy yourself and enjoy the company of whoever you're playing, and that's exactly what we're doing.”

Big-hitting Belgian Colsaerts added: “We complemented each other in a very nice way, great timing and a few good putts that dropped at the right time and kept us ahead in the right momentum.

“This was our first shot at it and it seems to be working quite well. Obviously foursomes is a very different format, but the way we've been playing the last two days, there's no reason we can't get away with it in foursomes.”
