0– The Northern Irishman didn't drop a single shot in his first appearance of the 2018 European Tour season. He had just one bogey-free round last season from 38 starts.

12– Dustin Johnson opened with a level par 72 today. The American will be aiming to win for the 12th consecutive season worldwide.

321– Johnson's average drive in round one was 321 yards.

13- It was a special day for young Oscar Murphy. The 13 year old took on McIlroy, Johnson and Fleetwood in the Beat the Pro challenge at the 177-yard par three 15th hole. Oscar took everybody by surprise when he sent his tee shot closer to the pin than both Johnson and Fleetwood.

24- Chris Paisley is 24 under par for his last five rounds on tour, thanks to an opening 69 in the Middle East. Last week's BMW SA Open hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni winner posted rounds of 66-65-70-66 on his way to victory in South Africa.
