Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño was unable to hold off Toshinori Muto’s brilliant final round challenge at the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan, but there was some good news for the Spaniard.
Muto carded a brilliant final round 63 to win by four on 12 under and overhaul overnight leader Fernandez-Castaño.
But the runner-up finish secured a return to the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking for last week’s Barclays Singapore Open champion.
The 31 year old, who closed with a level par 71 in Japan, will earn a Masters Tournament debut if he stays there for another month.
