Paratore off to fast start at The Dutch

Renato Paratore turned in 31 to get to five under and take an early two-shot lead on day one of the KLM Open at The Dutch.

Out in the very first group of the day off the tenth, the Italian made five birdies to lead the way from England's Chris Wood, with countryman Matteo Manassero, another Englishman in Richard McEvoy, Spaniard Pablo Larrazábal, China's Li Haotong, American Paul Peterson and South African Justin Walters three shots back.

Last season's Nordea Masters champion made just four of his first 14 cuts this season but a recent tie for second at the Porsche European Open suggested a return to form.

Four birdies in his first five holes in Spijk suggested he was in good touch and when he added another gain on the 16th, he led by two.

Wood made a hat-trick of gains from the 13th to turn in 33.

McEvoy was bogey-free through eight holes, while Walters was also approaching the turn after bogeying the fourth but going eagle-birdie from the sixth.

Li had a single eagle on the 15th in his first six holes, while Peterson had three birdies and a bogey.

Larrazábal also had three birdies and a bogey in his first five holes, with Manassero bogey-free having also played five.

There was then a group of 18 players in the group at one under including three-time Major Championship winner Padraig Harrington.
