The American claimed his maiden European Tour win at the D+D REAL Czech Masters two weeks ago and was four under after 11 holes at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club to share the lead with England's James Morrison.

Peterson made a birdie-bogey start but then made three gains in a row from the 14th and another on the last to hit the top of the leaderboard.

Morrison was also through 11 holes after starting on the front nine and he made birdies on the second and fourth before holing a lob wedge from 92 yards on the par four fifth for a brilliant eagle.

There was then a group of six players at three under made up of Englishmen Robert Rock, Oliver Wilson, Steve Webster and Anthony Wall, Denmark's Joachim B Hansen and Frenchman Julien Quesne.

Defending champion  Danny Willett was then at two under, alongside Australian trio Scott Hend, Andrew Dodt and Marcus Fraser, South Korea's Soomin Lee, Swede Rikard Karlberg and South African Richard Sterne.
