David started his 2001 season with a strong sixth place finish at the De Vere PGA Seniors Championship and also came tied for tenth at the Legends in Golf tournament in Holland but four missed cuts in his other six events meant he lost his card for a second successive season before bouncing back by claiming eighth place at the Qualifying School in Portugal. David was an outstanding American footballer and hockey player while growing up in Minnesota . He attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a degree in pharmacy and then went on to win a number of prestigious amateur events, both in Minnesota and his new home state of Texas, before choosing to turn professional in 1994 in time for his 50th birthday. David earned his US Senior Tour card at its Qualifying School at the end of 1995 but did not make enough to retain it. After spending some time on the mini-tours David then qualified for the European Seniors Tour in 2000 where his best finish was a tie for sixth at the Tui Championship Fleesensee. David comes from a sporting family. His son, Mike, is a member of the Houston Astros baseball team and his daughter, Jane, played four years of college golf at the University of Arkansas. She has also produced a fine sportsman because her 12 year old son, Mike, is a world series champion baseball pitcher.
