Graduated from European Tour Qualifying School in 1996, at third attempt. Started golf on public course, at 14 joined Verulam GC (St Albans), where Sam Ryder was founder member and past captain. Assistant pro at Verulam from 16-20, now fully qualified PGA professional. Tied fourth at halfway stage of 1997 Open Golf Championship after second round 66.
