John is a former fighter pilot, having flown F-4's for four years and F-17s for 17 years before leaving the Air Force and turning professional in 1999. A winner of the 1993 US Air Force and US Armed Forces titles, he did not take long to win his first professional title, capturing the Treasure Coast Open during 1999. Subsequently, he has also won two titles on the Florida Senior Tour. John earned his Seniors Tour card by finishing 12th at the 2001 Qualifying School at Pinta.
