The highlight of his debut season came at the Swalec Wales Challenge, where he triumphed in a play-off over Sweden’s Joel Sjoholm to seal his maiden Challenge Tour title. His winner’s cheque for €22,400 saw the Irishman leap 125 places up the Challenge Tour Rankings to 34th place, but he was unable to sustain the momentum and ultimately finished outside the qualifying places. That led to a trip to the Qualifying School – Final Stage, which ended in heartache when he bogeyed the final hole to miss out on the top 30 places by just one shot. But he soon put the disappointment with a creditable tied 23rd finish on only his second European Tour appearance at the Madeira Islands Open BPI – Portugal.
