Will be hoping to follow in the spikemarks of his compatriot Tim Thelen, against whom he competed on the Southern Texas PGA circuit in their native America. Thelen won three times on the Senior Tour last year after winning the Qualifying School Final in 2010, and Thompson will now use his friend’s feats as inspiration after taking the fourth card at this year’s Qualifying School Final. Boasts a fine Qualifying School record, having won the US PGA Tour Qualifying School in 1992, and the US Champions Tour equivalent in 2008. Mixed his commitments as a PGA teaching professional at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, with his frequent forays on the US Champions Tour, where his highest finish was tied fourth in the 2008 Turtle Bay Championship. His best performance on the US PGA Tour was tied third in the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. His wife Chris is an associate athletic director for student services and senior women’s administrator at Sam Houston State University, and a former tennis coach at the same school. Son Kyle is hoping to follow in his mother’s, rather than his father’s footsteps, having taken up a tennis scholarship at college.
